How to Change Your Belief System When You Are in Conflict With Your True Self

Many of us are overweight, unhealthy, underpaid, over stressed, mad at our family members, stuffing our feelings with food, addictions, spending habits, have debt or other “messes” in our lives that we don’t like. 

Some of us are really good at ignoring the mess, and telling ourselves that we are fine.

This is a belief system

And more than likely, it’s in conflict with your TRUE self, what you truly believe.

#1 Core Beliefs

We have CORE beliefs we are born with (this is debatable depending on the psychology or theorists you read). 

What isn’t debatable is that sometimes, our CORE beliefs are not in synch or alignment with our parents, teachers, pastors, government, or other communities arenas that have taught us “what to believe.”

#2 Reprogram Your Mind

I’m Heather Hundhausen and I help people to reprogram their minds.  I have my masters in mental health, I am a certified hypnotist, and a licensed massage therapist since 1999.  I have found that people have blockages in their bodies and minds that prevent them from living the life they truly want to live.  These blocks usually get there out of protection.  The ego mind convinces us to be a specific way to keep us safe.  When we start doing that, and become stuck (for example, we build walls in relationships so other can’t “hurt us” again) from these beliefs that are supposedly going to keep us safe.

I help people reprogram their minds and beliefs.  Many of us learned in our younger years from our parents, peers, teachers, etc, who and how to be.  We took their word for it, believed them, and tried to become what we thought would work best in that environment.

As you may or may not know, those beliefs and behaviors may not be serving you anymore in your adult life.  That is why we would want to reprogram them! 

So, you can be free from living something that isn’t working for you anymore!

Are you ready to learn how to change your belief system? Let’s start with looking into “reprogramming”.

What is reprogramming? 

We can reprogram using meditation, visualization, hypnosis, regression, inner child work, Somato Emotional Release, or any other form EXPERIENCE that you have in your body to feel the changes that could be possible when you let go of what is not working for you. 

There are many different ways of releasing those blocks, and we choose them according to which ones you are ready to pursue.  We always go at your pace.

Why would you want to reprogram your mind?

  • So that you can be free from all of the blocks that keep you from your true self.
  • So that you can heal.
  • So that you can live a fulfilling life.

I decided to ask my own inner wisdom “what is the pain point around people’s belief systems?” while I was preparing for this blog/talk.

The answer was, you (human beings) believe things that are not true.

You believe that you are unworthy, that you are small, that you should be be small, that others don’t want to see your full glory.

You try to be someone that you think others want to be, but that’s not TRUE and you know it.

You’re going to be my best friend forever.

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to PLAY with a 9 year old girl.

We had so much fun together playing in the waves, and she said, “You’re going to be my best friend forever!”

I wish we could all be like that as adults! But, we formed BELIEFS that keep us from trusting others, from loving others, and from being our true selves.

We form walls and blocks, and then don’t get to have as much fun or live in as much purpose as is possible, because we stop ourselves.

Somewhere deep inside you, you KNOW that you are supposed to be your true, fully expressed, authentic self.

It’s why my business name is Beautifully authentic, I don’t want you to look beautiful, I want you to be in your TRUE, authentic self, and when you do that, it is SO beautiful!

By authentic, I don’t mean, “I feel like crap today, and everyone around me has to know it now.”

That’s not being your AUTHENTIC self.

That may seem like you’re being “authentic” in your feelings in the moment, which is absolutely fine, and important.

But, the reason you have those so called “negative” emotions, is to show you that you are OUT of alignment with your true, authentic self!

Are you ready to find out how to change your belief system? Start with allowing yourself to see that when you feel “bad” that it is actually a calling for you to get back into alignment with who you REALLY are, you probably wouldn’t want to share those “bad” feelings with others, because you would realize that is not who you are here to be!

Discover what’s not right.

You would simply, go into yourself and discover what part is not right, and then seek to get back into your center.

You KNOW you want to be your fully expressed selves, YET, you hold yourselves small, trying to be something for someone else.

Trying to always GET IT RIGHT instead of just operating in your own TRUTH and KNOWING.

Too many people have forgotten their truth, and when they look around at their lives, they see a MESS.

They are overweight, they are out of shape, they are on too many medications, they are drinking too much, they are not close to their spouses, they don’t know how to be intimate, they are overwhelmed, overworked, underpaid, stressed out and yelling at each other and their kids.

They are NOT being their authentic selves.

They have bought into some regime that they believe is the right way to be. They operate out of fear, and then try to stuff down their desires and their knowing, and their feelings, with food, addictions, sex, spending, and all kids of other messes that they have created.

The reality you are living in, whether it is your own personal heaven or hell, you created it.  

This is a tough pill for many people to swallow.

#4 Live in Your Truth

When I was preparing this, I asked my own inner power to help me find a metaphor to describe what a good story, or metaphor for this situation that people live in, where they believe something that they are not, and they create results that they do not want?

The metaphor is this, when you are walking through the desert, do you want a cup of water, yes, you do, so what do you create in your mind?

A mirage.

You think the mirage is true, so you keep walking towards it, although, it is a trick of the mind. Too many people are walking through the desert tired and thirsty, looking for and walking towards a mirage that isn’t there.

Yet, they have convinced themselves that it is there, and they are going to walk toward it because they think it will save them.

When I make a lot of money I will feel happy …

That fancy car and big house will bring me happiness.

If I walk towards it, it will save me from this feeling of not following my purpose or my goals or being who I am really meant to be.

If I have a beautiful wife or a great husband, and 2.5 kids and a dog with a white picket fence, then I will have achieved success, and it wont matter that I am not living my purpose, my calling, or my dream.

Their success is more important than mine.

My family’s happiness is the only happiness that matters.

#5 Create Happiness for Yourself First

You cannot create happiness for someone else.

Your sacrifice is NOT going to truly make someone else happy.

The only way for someone else to be happy is for them to CLAIM their ownership and happiness of their lives. There is nothing you can do to make them happy!

You want to make others happy?

Help them discover their true selves!

What did the creator create these people for? Ask yourself that!

And then, help them to step into that! That’s what I do for you. I look at who you are, truly, and help you to see it!

I help you to see what you really want, and your FULL potential.

This is like walking towards that mirage in the desert. It will never bring you satiation.

You will always keep walking tired, and thirsty, and wondering why you’re not fulfilled.

#6 Start on Your Inward Journey

If you’re looking around you right now, and you realize that you are living in the desert, and that you are walking towards a mirage, and you realize that you are scared to do it any other way, now is the time to get on the phone with me to discover if it’s time for you to start on your INWARD journey.

I won’t make you walk in a specific direction.

I just lead the horse to water; it’s up to you if you want to drink it, instead of drinking others dreams, and creating happiness for others, and instead of living your full potential.

If you’re TIRED of walking in your own shoes, and you realize that what you’re aiming for ISN’T YOUR fulfillment, you are actually TAKING from your family.

  • They need you to be WHO you were sent here to be, in your full glory.
  • They don’t need to be with an overwhelmed, stressed out person who is following someone else’s beliefs.
  • They care about your happiness and fulfillment as much as you care about theirs!!!

#7 Know You Are Enough

We believe in our culture that if we EARN enough or have enough success, and make ourselves miserable in the process then we will be happy?

Have you done that?

Have you bought into the belief that you will be happy when you “have all of that?”

Tap into your inner self, and ask yourself, “If I work myself into the ground is that what is going to make my family happy?”

Its not true for me.

I’m not saying quit your job you hate and just float around.

You cannot just move a mountain from here to there …

You get to move it stone by stone.

The problem is, so many people

  • don’t even know where they are going!
  • don’t know what their passion is.
  • They’re working bored, stressed out, and hating their lives.

What would make you be HAPPY!?

Then, once you’ve found out what makes you happy, how do you get there!?

That’s why you hire a coach. A coach helps you to get from where you are to where you want to go. They help you to move the stones one at a time, to move the mountain from here to there.

#8 Love Yourself and What You Do

I have a client who didn’t think she was happy.

She BELIEVED that she was SUPPOSED to be doing things that were making her unhappy.

The things that were really making her happy were her animals, rescuing animals, and watching her cats play.

Once she realized that’s what made her happy, she realized she has happiness every day! She didn’t have to DO anything new! All she had to do was shift her mindset just a little bit! She heard her friends and family saying that she was crazy for having and rescuing animals. She believed them. By believing them, she wasn’t allowing herself to experience her own happiness!

#9 Love Yourself and What You Do

Look around you.

  • Do you have your dream job?
  • Do you LOVE what you do?
  • Do you LOVE who you are BEING in the world?
  • Are all of your relationships amazing, or in the least case, workable?
  • Or are you tired, worn out, miserable, and yelling at family members because of stress and unfulfillment?

These are indicators of your INNER world, your inner belief systems, and how they are manifesting in the world.

If you believe you are walking towards water, even though it may, in actuality, be a mirage, you are going to keep walking that way!


The only way to wake up is to ACTUALLY LOOK around you and see what is there!?



  • If not, isn’t it time to do something about it?
  • Wouldn’t you like to change your beliefs about your world, so that you can make it one that you actually enjoy being in?
  • Ready to get out of the desert and stop walking towards a mirage?
  • Ready to start drinking water, feeling refreshed, invigorated, and alive?

This isn’t who I want to be, this isn’t the life I want to create… then call me.

Changing the way you think and believe isn’t hard.

It makes sense to look at yourself and say, “I’m not happy, I want something else”

It’s hard to put that into practice. You have to really want it.

But when you’ve been exhausted, thirsty in the desert for too long, it’s more than worth it. And you know it.
